ARLINGTON -- A company wants to build an ethanol distribution center in north Arlington so it can offload the cleaner-burning fuel from trains and deliver it through underground pipes to gasoline storage facilities across Dallas-Fort Worth.
The Arlington Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing Wednesday on whether 15 undeveloped acres on Calloway Cemetery Road should be rezoned to allow the project.
Trains would deliver ethanol to the Arlington transfer site via the Union Pacific/Trinity Railway Express line. The ethanol would be pumped through underground pipes directly to the Flint Hills Resources and Direct Fuels storage terminals in far east Fort Worth, north of Arlington, according to the U.S. Development Group, which is proposing the project. The center could one day deliver ethanol to gas storage facilities in Irving and Southlake. Ethanol is made from corn and is added to gasoline to help reduce air pollution. Its popularity has grown since Congress mandated that more of the renewable fuel be produced.
Ethanol is shipped to Dallas-Fort Worth from the Midwest by rail. Link to original publisher on the internet
